Sneaky Pete’s

The Sneaky Pete’s in Tarrant used to have a Pepper Dog; a hot dog covered in a hot relish made from 5 pepper varieties. You broke into
a sweat with the first bite, and it was heavenly. I miss them terribly.

Written by Robin Newberry: “when we were in High School, I can remember my girlfriend’s Mom pocketing the sat and pepper shakers from the Sneaky Pete’s in Hoover; I don’t know why”)

  1. I always thought Sneaky Pete’s PROVED what an amazing hold the hot dog had on our city. There must be - what - 30-40 locations of Sneaky Pete’s in the metro area now, and the hot dog they are famous for has a variant of the standard second avenue sauce (a mite thick, and it doesn’t age well, but good when hot). I cannot imagine a city of similar size supporting this many hot dog stands that don’t have ketchup as the main condiment. Sneaky Pete’s is always a fallback to me, but there is nothing remotely as good here in Clemson. Is it just me, or do most Birmingham restaurants of this type (hot dog, burger, BBQ) live or die by the sauce? And is Birmingham unique in the sheer volume of it’s sauce-based fast food joints?
